 Plaça del Mercat in Castellar del Vallès is an example of an infrastructure and services program integrated into a public space where the new section links and articulates various uses. The programme includes an underground car park, a market floor with a direct street entrance and a plaza-hall laid horizontally on top of the market roof. This plaza is the entrance to a Civic and Cultural Centre.
LONGO benches, designed by the same architects, were first manufactured for this project. Here they are used to define the small market entrance square. MORELLA Planters are arranged in lines to fill this square with greenery and act as a boundary for the occasional vehicle traffic. NOMO benches, installed individually or in lines of two, and differently sized BOLLARDs, scattered randomly throughout the area, are the main features of the new identity given to this public space.
The Plaça del Mercat project was designed in 2008 by Ruisánchez Arquitectes in conjunction with Escofet.
