Born in Reus (Tarragona) in 1852, he was trained as an architect at the Provincial School of Barcelona. La Casa Vicens was his first major construction, and showed a clear Islamic influence. His relationship with Joan Martorell allowed him to begin the direction of what was to be his monumental work, the Sagrada Familia Church, in 1883. He dedicated 43 years of his life to it. At the same time he designed the Güell Park, the Casa Batlló and “La Pedrera”, all notable examples of his art. He died in Barcelona on 10 June, 1926.
