Barcelona, España 2024

The Aribau 195 project consists of a major rehabilitation operation that involves the transformation of more than 19,000 m² built in the heart of the Eixample district of Barcelona. The action turns the need to renovate the building constructed in 1989 into an opportunity to recover the continuity of the urban fabric through the integration of the envelope and the incorporation of a beautiful garden in the interior courtyard.

The intervention converts two pre-existing office buildings and their interior courtyard intended for installations into a single building that, taking advantage of more than 80% of the original structure, favors the volumetric regularization of the built complex and recovers the available exterior spaces to naturalize them for the benefit of people.

The main facade on Aribau Street prioritizes compositional and chromatic integration. To this end, an ad hoc prefabricated architectural concrete piece is designed, providing the appropriate order, rhythm, and color to follow the precepts of Barcelona architecture.

The interior facade facing the courtyard promotes the relationship of the offices with the garden by providing large continuous balconies composed of prefabricated metal modules assembled on-site that incorporate climbing vegetation elements.

Both facades, along with the roofs, pay special attention to their bioclimatic behavior and their capacity for landscape integration in relation to the intervened environment.
