Benches

Zuera

2001

The backless bench is a 2-meter-long parallelepiped, 60 cm wide, with a forward-leaning orientation.

A single-piece concrete bench features a protruding section that acts as backrest, maintaining geometric harmony when combined with backless benches. An optional wooden backrest can be attached to the backless benches using metal plates, emphasizing the slant of the concrete base volume. In linear arrangements, modules with and without backrest can be combined.

The Zuera bench, in its dual version (with and without a back) was designed by the architects Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover, in a project for the recovery of the banks of the Gállego River that flows through the town of Zuera, in Aragon. The project won the 2002 European Prize for Urban Public Space.

Manufactured in reinforced concrete with an etched and waterproof finish, and in Escofet's standard colour chart. The bench backrest is made of FSC® certified pine wood, with metallic zinc-plated supports in a textured silver finish. The Zuera bench is self-balancing and can be simply installed on the paving, with no need for anchors.
