Cala

The CALA fountain is an urban equipment solution that integrates material innovation and universal accessibility criteria from its very conception. Conceived as an innovative element within its typology, CALA was developed with the aim of ensuring accessible use for all people, in line with the universal accessibility requirements established in the Madrid Town Hall. The use of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) enables a compact, durable design with high mechanical strength, while the incorporation of two chrome-plated brass push-button taps, developed according to universal design principles, ensures independent use by people with reduced mobility.

The fountain consists of a reinforced UHPC monoblock body that integrates the supply and drainage piping, resolving the entire system as a single compact and robust piece. It features two polished stainless steel spouts with integrated push buttons, positioned at different heights to guarantee universal accessibility. The first water outlet is located 89 cm above ground level, with a completely unobstructed space underneath that allows frontal access for wheelchair users.

The irregular geometry of the body rises to a change in section, dividing into two branching arms that house the spouts. At the center, a basin collects the water and directs it toward the drain, with all edges resolved through rounded forms without sharp corners for increased safety. The easy-to-activate, low-effort tap mechanism completes a functional, robust, and accessible solution designed for implementation in all types of contemporary public spaces.
